New Iron Ore Discovery in Bingöl Strengthens Region's Mining Potential
Prodem Mining has identified a magnetite iron ore reserve of approximately 250–300 million tons through its exploratory drilling operations in the Karlıova district of Bingöl. Established in 2011, Prodem conducted extensive, long-term R&D and geological studies in the Kaynartepe area of Karlıova, Bingöl, ultimately leading to the discovery of an iron ore deposit in 2025. High-grade iron ore was identified within a 17,767-hectare licensed site. Following more than 10,000 meters of drilling, the deposit is currently undergoing the preparation of a report in accordance with the National Mineral Resources and Reserves Reporting Commission (UMREK) standards. The site, which is projected to have an operational lifespan of 30–35 years, is expected to reduce reliance on foreign sources for Erdemir’s pellet requirements while contributing to regional employment. Through an export-oriented growth strategy, the extracted iron ore will be supplied to the global industrial market.
This development will elevate the Karlıova region—where our Kaynarpınar site is located—to an increasingly strategic position on Türkiye’s iron ore production map.
